Future of Texas country music interview

Posted in Uncategorized on April 12, 2010 by mnickles

Today I sat down with a local Texas country music lover named Kyle to host an interview on the future of Texas country music. The original interview was shot live from Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos during a local artists concert. However due to technical problems the video was lost. We re-shot the interview from my apartment. We tried to give it the country vibe as best we could but you really can’t replace being in a dance hall with an artist on stage. But, there is some pretty interesting content within so check out the YouTube video to watch the interview.

Southern Sound Update

Posted in Uncategorized on March 1, 2010 by mnickles

Well I’m back again with the update as promised.  The Kyle Park concert at Cheatham Street Warehouse was absolutely amazing. Ill definitely go as far to say the he rocked the roof off the place. It was a sold out show which was no surprise at all, givin the buzz goin on around town prior to the show.  I know I promised videos and some pictures but due to a certain Texas State student this was not possible. Now y’all know I love my school but I cant say the same for everyone in it. Long story short due to his selfishness and willingness to shove, I was unable to get around him to get a good worthwhile shot. I guess being polite still wont get you anywhere these days but it is what it right.

In other news I’m am seriously looking forward to the release of the new Randy Rogers Band album “BuRNiNg the DaY”, which set to release sometime towards the beginning the summer. There are definitely going to be a lot of changes to the album and the live shows from here on out. For starters Randy announced on Twitter that he is retiring his Gibson J-45 acoustic guitar.  I personally cant remember him ever playing anything different.

His new guitar that he will be playing will be what appears to be a solid body 1950′s Fender Telecaster. This is the picture he  put on Twitter.

Another change to the new album is going to be the producer. Former Warner Bros. Records Nashville division chief, creative officer, and guitarist Paul Worley headed up the new album and was completely recorded in Nashville Tennessee.  Now for those that know me I am probably the biggest Nashville hater alive because of artists like Toby Keith, Trace Adkins and guys like that. However, Paul has written and worked with one of  the greatest singer songwriters Radney Foster who as also co-written with Randy Rogers on some of their early stuff. From what I have heard and read, they have already been playing many of the songs prior to recording unlike the last album which should give it a more meaningful vibe then what you get when you sit down and just write and record the whole album in the studio. So this should be an album you might want to check out. Until next time my friends!

Live music locator iPhone app!

Posted in Uncategorized on February 25, 2010 by mnickles

Well here it is folks! If you are anything like me, you are constantly on the hunt for the next live Texas music venue to see your favorite band or artist perform. Also if you are like me and depend on the iPhone for everything in you daily life, why not create an app that can simplify the hunt and take you exactly where you want to go? Well Apple, here is a little something for you to work on. I have created my idea of an app for the iphone that can do all of this. After selecting the the “Live Texas Music” icon the loading screen would look something like this just to let you know exactly what you are really getting into.
From here you have two options to choose from. You can either use the already programmed map of Texas and select the city in which you are in or would like to go to by touching the screen and see which Texas country artist will be playing in that location at what venue and at what time. Or you can use the text box selection to run a search for a specific artist or venue.
Thus giving you your final pinpointed Google map location.
Now I realize it may not be the most handy app for everyone but for Texas music lovers I think it could do a lot, and since “there is an app for everything”, I think this should be one of them. Well thanks for checkin it out hope you like the idea. In other news, tonight at Cheatham Street Warehouse, San Marcos local and personal favorite of mine Kyle Park will be playing a show a little after 10pm, so definitely try to check that out. I will be there havin a good time so ill try and get some pics and videos to share with y’all.  Later on!

Great Week in Texas Country

Posted in Uncategorized on February 19, 2010 by mnickles

This week was a great week for Texas country music. On Tuesday February 16, the Josh Abbott Band released their new album “Shes Like Texas”. This has been a long awaited album since the release of “Scapegoat” in September of 2008. I can only label the new album with a few words and that is “simply amazing”. The sound is very different from a lot of their earlier stuff. The band seemed to steer away from the harder rock vibe and really exaggerate the southern sound with some extensive fiddle playing by Patrick Wait. Every song just compliments the next. A very well put together album. The single for the album “All of a Sudden”, has done very well on the Texas Music chart after debuting on 98.1 Kvet at Hills Cafe as part of the Texas Roadhouse Series. The Josh Abbott band gained great publicity for their song “Taste”. For those who have not heard it, this is a song loaded with sexual innuendos that has really made a name for the band. A great addition to the new album is the sequel to Taste. The new song is called “Hot Shower”, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this song getting a lot of air time if the radio can handle it. Some of the guest appearances on the album include that of Kasey Musgraves, Trent Willmon and a personal favorite of mine Mr. Roger Creager. Overall this is a great album so I definitely give a tip of the hat to Josh and the boys for keepin it goin. The album is available on iTunes as well as places like Hastings and Best Buy for right around 10 dollars. For those who will be in Austin on February 19, the Josh Abbott band will be playing at Midnight Rodeo so you can expect to hear a lot of the songs off the new album. Well thanks for stoppin in and if you get a chance go pick up the album, you wont regret it. See y’all!

Introductory Post

As you might have seen in my profile, I am a guitar player from Austin Texas. Blogging is very new to me but I feel this is a great way to spread the word of the “Red Dirt” nation. What I hope to achieve through blogging is the sharing of pictures videos and reviews of great artists here in Texas, in hopes of boosting the awareness of whats going on, not only to fellow Texans but to people all across the world. When I was 15 years old I went to my first live country concert at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels Texas to see Austin’s great Corry Morrow. From then on I was hooked and knew there was something to be said for Texas country music and I without a doubt want to be part of it.

Over our past few classes for Social Media at Work, we have seen how the internet has evolved over the past decade to become what it is today. Without this great achievement in technology many of the great up and coming artists would not be where they are. Through the use of the computers and the internet, artists can now market themselves and spread their work  at a much quicker and affordable rate than in years past.
